Actor Vijay requests that Tamil Nadu not impose CAA, calling it “unacceptable.”

Thalapathy Vijay, a Tamil actor and the leader of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), attacked the Narendra Modi-led Central government on Monday after it enacted the Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.

Four years after the controversial legislation was enacted by Parliament, the Center put the CAA into effect by announcing the regulations. The CAA allows illegal non-Muslim migrants from Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan who arrived in India before December 31, 2014, to get citizenship more quickly.

It is “not acceptable” to execute the CAA, according to a statement made by Vijay and posted on the microblogging platform X.

A rough translation of his speech, which was made public in Tamil, claimed that “it is not acceptable to implement any law like the Indian Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 (CAA) in an environment where all citizens of the country live in social harmony.”

Additionally, he asked the Tamil Nadu government to make sure the legislation is not enforced in Tamil Nadu.

The message went on, “The leaders should make sure that Tamil Nadu does not implement this law.”

Along with Vijay, other opposition politicians have criticized the Centre for releasing the Citizenship (Amendment) Act guidelines, claiming the BJP was attempting to polarize the public and split society in advance of the general elections.

The Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu, MK Stalin, described it as the BJP’s “divisive agenda” and said that “people will teach them (the BJP) a befitting lesson.”.
