IND vs. ENG: In Dharamsala, Sunil Gavaskar Specially Requests Of Rohit Sharma Regarding Ravichandran Ashwin

Ranchi: The great Sunil Gavaskar personally asked Indian captain Rohit Sharma to let Ravichandran Ashwin to command the team in the next fifth Test match against England in Dharamsala, which begins on March 7. India, who are already up 2-1 in the series, has to win the current fourth Test match in Ranchi by 152 runs with all 10 wickets remaining in order to seal the victory.

Gavaskar has already expressed a desire to see Ashwin captain the Test team. Gavaskar had expressed a similar hope a few years before, but it never came to pass. Gavaskar wants Ashwin to be permitted to lead in his 100th Test match as a gesture of respect for the Tamil Nadu cricketer who made his debut in 2011, even though Ashwin was not given the opportunity to lead India in the longest format.

“You go to Dharamsala after India wins tomorrow. All I want is that Rohit lets you lead the squad into the field at the appropriate time. Following the conclusion of the third day of play on Sunday, Gavaskar said, “That will be a wonderful gesture, wonderful honour for all that you’ve done for Indian cricket.”

But Ashwin wants to win the Test match and series for India, as usual, and concentrate on the task at hand. “You’re being too giving, Sunny bhai. I really appreciate it. I don’t anticipate anything from any of these things. I honestly feel like I’m loving every second of being with this squad, and the longer it goes on, the happier I will be, Ashwin answered, even though I believe I’m far beyond all that.

Currently in his 99th Test match, Ashwin—a real cricket titan—has amassed 507 wickets, 35 five-wicket hauls, 24 four-wicket hauls, 3000 runs, and five hundreds. Ashwin has contributed to every significant milestone India has achieved in his career so far, from rising to the top of the Test bowling rankings to competing in the World Test Championship finals. The right-hander will also become one of the select few Indians to have played 100 Test matches when the fifth Test begins, joining the likes of Virat Kohli, Ishant Sharma, and Cheteshwar Pujara.
